Acitivity Square Europe - To Move 80 Million Children

Zwischen Jänner 2016 und Juni 2018 konnte die Fit Sport Austria im Rahmen eines EU-geförderten Erasmus Sport+ Projekts einen Informations- und Entwicklungsaustausch zwischen 13 Partnern aus neun Nationen im Kooperationsbereich von Bildungseinrichtungen und Sportvereinen umsetzen. Neben dem wichtigen Aspekt des Erfahrungsaustausches waren es vor allem auch gemeinsame Entwicklungen, die das Projekt auszeichneten. So wurden neben der Auslobung von Best practice Modellen zum Beispiel auch Benchmarks für Projekte in diesem wichtigen Gesellschaftsbereich oder auch das nachstehende Erklärvideo gemeinsam erarbeitet.

 

School Sport Cooperation on European Level

From January 2016 to June 2018 the Erasmus+ project "Activity Square Europe" supported an information exchange between project coordinators of EU member states who are working in the field of school and sport sector cooperation. Fit Sport Austria had the lead of this project and 13 organisations from 9 different countries participated. One of the project's objectives was to build a benchmark tool for people who are working in this field. This benchmark tool is ready to fill out at this website.

Successful school- and sport sector cooperation may rely on voluntary support from the sport sector, but also has to be backed by sufficient public or private funding.
Relevance – Why is this requirement important?

Without public funding or access to school facilities, it’s very hard to start a school-sport-cooperation. Especially, when children with less advantages backgrounds are taken into account. The governmental funding of human and material resources is necessary to give each child the same opportunity to take part in physical activity or sports lessons. Otherwise, those children from parents with low incomes maybe would be excluded.

 

Challenges – What are the typical challenges related to this requirement?

To get enough public funding every year is the biggest challenge. Furthermore, it's hard to get access to sports infrastructure and to have enough qualified coaches at time of implementing the program activities (i.e. during school hours).
 

Strategies – What are potential measures or strategies you might consider to (better) fulfil this requirement?

One strategy is to campaign for daily physical activity of school-aged children at the responsible people, politicians and institutions. Use of alternative (outdoor) infrastructure, unused land/open spaces, churches, etc. Train teachers to integrate physical activity in every lesson of school-day.
